Role:

Art Director/ Illustrator/ Community Manager

Project Summary:

As a Co-Founder of MarkMakerz LDN, a collective and support network of young diverse digital artists, designers, illustrators, animators and musicians from London; we organise community events, podcasts and meetups as well as run our annual October daily art and music prompt art challenge called Playtober. This is the series of 31 paintings I created for October 2023.

BACKGROUND

The collective started with the question: why don’t visual artists collaborate the way musicians do? Inspired by their time in the London Jazz, Rap and Afrobeats music scenes, a few visual artists decided to form an initiative to challenge this question, under the name MarkMakerz: an ode to the artist’s natural inclination to both work in private, and to make their mark on a wide scale..

The collection’s mission is to bring together multi-talented illustrators from various ethnic, class and disciplinary backgrounds, and to create a culture of sharing knowledge, resources and experience amongst peers as we navigate the creative industry. Having begun our journey with our online daily challenge Playtober, garnering an audience throughout the online art community, and going on to exhibit at Tate Britain in 2023, we hope to expand our reach and develop on our ethos.
