Cadet tribute

MTV

PROJECT GOAL

MTV reached out after seeing a personal tribute I was creating for Cadet – a UK rapper I deeply respected who passed in 2018. They wanted to commission me to turn it into an official visual piece for Yo! MTV Raps. It was one of my first big placements and a huge moment early in my career, letting me honour an artist who meant a lot to me and to the culture.

Yo! MTV Raps UK is the British revival of MTV’s legendary hip-hop show – a platform built to spotlight the new wave of UK rap, grime and drill talent. It’s where culture, conversation and live performance meet, giving artists space to tell their stories in their own voice.

The tribute aired on Your MTV Raps and got massive love across the scene, including from Cadet’s cousin Krept. For me, it wasn’t just work – it was a moment of healing, reflection and gratitude. Proof that art can carry memory and turn loss into something beautiful.

Cadet was more than a rapper – he was a truth teller. His music carried a rare honesty, the kind that hit you in the chest. Tracks like Stereotype broke ground in British rap, stripping back bravado to show real pain, growth and vulnerability. When he passed in 2019, the scene felt it heavy. Krept’s Letter to Cadet became the country’s open wound – raw, emotional, impossible to ignore. Together, their words reminded everyone what this culture is built on: love, loss, and legacy. Cadet’s voice still echoes through UK rap – he’ll never be forgotten.
