air max 270

Nike / Highsnobriety / Exposure

In 2019, I was commissioned by Nike to contribute to the launch of their Air Max 270 React collection. A campaign that reimagined classic modern art movements through custom artwork and footwear design.

The brief brought together seven artists across the UK to create visual responses to iconic 20th-century art styles, from Bauhaus and op art to impressionism and pop. Each artist was tasked with developing a bespoke artwork and matching trainer design that reflected the spirit of their chosen movement.

I was selected to represent psychedelia - a perfect match for my surreal, character-driven illustration style. I built a full custom illustration and translated its colour, energy and graphic language into a one-off Air Max 270 React design, making the shoe feel like a coherent extension of the world I created rather than a slapped-on gimmick.

What I Delivered

I created a full custom illustration that was then translated directly into a one-of-one Air Max 270 React shoe design. The colours and graphic energy from the artwork were carried over to the shoe’s detailing - forming a cohesive extension of the world I had built.

The end result was more than just a shoe - it was a wearable artwork that paid tribute to one of the most visually rebellious periods in design history, filtered through my own style and cultural lens.

Project Impact

The collection received global press and was featured on It’s Nice That, among other platforms. Each artist’s work was highlighted as part of Nike’s push to celebrate creativity, culture, and customisation - offering audiences a glimpse at how art history can be reinterpreted through personal expression and product design.

For me, the collaboration was a chance to bring illustration into a new context - merging storytelling, fashion, and identity through a medium that lives in motion, on the street, and in culture.
